Give God Your Best
Passages: Rom 12:1
Song: Living Sacrifice – Brandon Lake
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.“
The passage above tells us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing unto God. While studying this scripture, I also looked at the book of Leviticus where God outlined the sacrifices He wanted. He mentioned that the priests could take some cuts of the sacrifices but theu should leave the fats for Him.
I was curious as to what the fats meant and when I checked it out, they were the sweetest part of the animal, meaning that God wanted to have the best part of the animal and this still applies today.
What does best to God look like? Rom 12: 1 highlights them.
- Holiness: Our best to God looks like holiness. We are called to be holy and without blemish. Just like in the Old Testament, every animal they offered was to be without blemish. Of course that sacrifice has been paid by Jesus Christ but there is still a call for us to be holy. 1 Pet 1: 15 – 16 says ‘but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” ‘.
- Giving your best: Something that God required from us is that we put Him as the first priority. A lot of us (myself included) tend to only pay attention to God after we’ve done every other thing. You do your quiet time after you’ve already done every other activity. After gisting, that’s when we go with all tiredness and “spend time with God”, and in that, we don’t even spend enough time. We give to God the smallest portion of our time. When it comes to finances, we give him whatever is left over. There is no intentionality in what we give to God. Even when it comes to service, we give God the bare minimum, never giving Him the excellent because we think He’s not worth it.
This is a call for us to actually look within our hearts. Are we giving God our best? Or do we give Him worthless sacrifices? Are offering to Him sacrifices that are not sweet smelling but foul smelling. Let’s re-prioritize and aim to give God the best of all we have. Just like David said ‘…I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.’
For some that may be reading this, there’s no relationship with God, so you can’t even give to Him. For other, you may have backslidden but know that God is still interested in you. He is still waiting for you.
If you will like to surrender to Him, pray this prayer with me.
“Lord Jesus, I recognize that I’m a sinner. I recognize that you died for me. Come into my heart Lord and be my personal Lord and saviour. Dear Holy Spirit, encounter me and bring me to an intimate relationship with You. Let me shine your light to this dark world in Jesus Name.”.
If you prayed this prayer, congratulations and welcome into the family of God. Please do well to send us a text or WhatsApp message at 09063365637 or send us an email at flavouforsingles@gmail.com
