God Hears Me
Passages: Jer. 33:3
Song: Broken Prayers – Riley Clemmons
Earlier in my walk with God, I always had this notion that God didn’t hear me when it comes to me. How do I explain this? I always thought that God would answer everybody apart from me and when He did answer me, it was not for me.
So even when I would pray, at the back of my mind & I would be like “God I know you’ll answer everybody except from me or God I know if I pray for this person it’ll work but it won’t work for me”. Quite a terrible and faithless mindset I know but that was what I was living with as at that time.
At a point, I had to ask myself a series of questions to find out why I thought that way and some things came up.
- Firstly, I felt undeserving. I always carried a mindset that I was undeserving of God’s love which in a way is valid because God loved us even when we hated Him. But rather than feeling grateful for His love, I felt only guilt and even in the place of prayer, I couldn’t come boldly to Him. It made me feel that God wasn’t interested in me. Now I know that those feelings were not of God and were from the enemy. I had to actively engage myself with different bible verses to break out from that mindset. Some of them are:
- John 15:16a says ‘You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. ‘
- Ephesians 5:20 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
- John 3:16 “For God so loved that world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
- The second reason that came up was I was preparing myself for “rejection”. Have you had that feeling where you were praying but you didn’t really put your mind there because you were already preparing for God to say No, not because the prayer point was bad but just to protect yourself from future “heartbreak”. That was part of the reasons why I didn’t expect that God would hear me.
I just want to let you know that God hears you, He knows you and He is interested in you. He is not sitting in heaven waiting for you to make a mistake but He is watching after you with love in His eyes and even when you make mistakes, God is waiting for you with arms open wide.
Don’t believe me, check out what He says:
- ‘And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.’ – Matthew 21:22
- ‘ Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. ‘ – Isaiah 65:24
- ‘ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.’ – Matthew 7:7
- ‘Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. ‘ – John 16:24
- ‘Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. ‘ – Jeremiah 33:3
Sin hinders and hurts our relationship with God and we are not able to relate with Him as we ought to. If you know your relationship with God is not right, please do well to go back to God in all honesty. He wants to hear from you, He wants a relationship with you more than you even do.
I pray that you have confidence in the knowledge that God loves you, is intentional about you and hears you. Have a great week ahead!
