Go Light Your World
Passages: Matt. 5:14 – 16, Jn 12:36
Song: Go Light Your World – Chris Rice
“ You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven“.
The world is full of darkness, we can see it in the way people behave, in the mindsets that they have. Everyday, we hear news of one perversion or another, it’s like we can’t wait to go further into darkness. But as Christians, we have been given an instruction or an injuction by Jesus and that is to “shine your light”.
In John 12:36, Jesus tells us ‘While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.’. We who have believed in the light have been mandated to shine our lights in the darkness. A lot of us Christians, want to shine our lights in the light, of what use is light if it does not go where darkness is? We are so content to shine our lights in the brightness which actually has no impact. Light is only seen as light when it goes where darkness is. Putting on a torch light in broad day light does not make sense but when it is turned on in the night, the impact of the light is felt.
We all have varying degrees of light, which changes as we behold Jesus. Some of us are torch lights, some spot lights, some light bulbs, some stadium lights. We are all lights but our reach varies. As you continue to behold Jesus, you go from a light bulb to a torch light, to a spot light, and so on. That is why it’s important we have an intimate relationship with Jesus. ‘And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.‘ – 2 Corinthians 3:18
The light we shine is not our light, but the light of Jesus. Like the moon that refects the light of the sun, so we are. This also places emphasis on making sure we have an intimate relationship with Jesus.
So how do we shine our light?
- Point to Jesus in all you do. Do not compromise to the world’s standard but work with God’s standard. In doing this you’re pointing to Jesus.
- Show compassion and love to others around you.
- Stand for the truth at all times.
- Live a life of integrity.
If a light is not connected to the source, it will go off, so would our lights go off if we are not connected to Jesus.
If you know you don’t have a relationship with God or you know your light has waned, pray this prayer with me.
“Lord Jesus, I recognize that I’m a sinner. I recognize that you died for me. Come into my heart Lord and be my personal Lord and saviour. Dear Holy Spirit, encounter me and bring me to an intimate relationship with You. Let me shine your light to this dark world in Jesus Name.”.
If you prayed this prayer, congratulations and welcome into the family of God. Please do well to send us a text or WhatsApp message at 09063365637 or send us an email at flavouforsingles@gmail.com
