Youth Time-Out June, 2022

For the 2022 June edition of youth time-out, we looked at the topic "Youth at the Crossroad". This was to conclude so to say the activity of the previous month, school visitation (click here to read about it). If you have not read the post on youth at the crossroad, please do. It gives foundation to what is discussed here.

What is a crossroad? A crossroad is point in your life when you have to make an important decision. It means to be presented with two or more options of which you have to choose one. Every crossroad is a sensitive point where any decision you make can either make you or mar you.

Every day a man makes about 2000 choices, that is to say that our life is the sum total of the choices we make; from the colours we like, to the friends we make and so on.

There are some Key choices that are made by every youth and missing any of these choices may lead you to a future you don’t like.

  • What to study
  • Your Career
  • The friends you keep
  • Your life partner

These are just a few of the choices we make. What then makes a choice a good one?

  • It pleases God: This is the most important point. The best choice a man can make is one that God approves of. This is why you must run through every decision you want to make with God. (See our post on prayer).
  • It leads you to the right place: Any choice that pleases God and is approved by God leads you to the right path.

Before making any choice it is important you do the following things

  • Ask God
  • Analyze the different choices: You draw up a pro/con list for the different choices. You can also take the Best – Worst (BW) Analysis by Ben Carson.

For each of the choices as the following questions:

  • What is the best thing that will happen if I take this choice?
  • What is the worst thing that will happen if I take this choice?
  • What is the best thing that will happen if I don’t take this choice?
  • What is the worst thing that will happen if I don’t take this choice?
  • Consult with your mentor: Having a mentor is very important as the person can guide you to what the best decision may be.

All in all, remember that your choices determine where you would be in life. Do not because of your today, eat your many tomorrows.
