Trust /trʌst/ – Firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of something or someone.

Someone I really admire in the bible is David, that is when he’s not engaging in one of his frivolities 😅. David wrote a lot of psalms, psalms of praise, thanksgiving, lament, deliverance etc. but one thing that I see common in a lot of his psalms is the word trust.

To trust someone means to find them reliable. It means to believe that they can do something. It means to put your faith in that person.

Now, let’s go back to David. A lot of his psalms are psalms where he is crying for deliverance due to the various situations he is facing at that point. Let’s use Psalms 31 as a reference. From verses 9 to 13, David pours his heart out to the Lord concerning his situation ‘… my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. ‘ (vs 9), ‘I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. ‘ (vs 12).

Can you imagine the distress he must have been going through at this time, the pain and grief? Some of us would be able to imagine, because we are going through pains and troubles at the moment or we know people going through difficult times.

In the midst of his circumstance, David said something ‘But I trust in you, O Lord ; I say, “You are my God.” ‘ (vs 14).

He said God no matter what I may be facing right now, I trust in you.

I want us to take this as a challenge no matter the problem you’re facing now, is it unemployment, sickness, no admission, no marriage etc. Just tell God now, ‘no matter what I’m facing, I trust you.’.

Now, I know if you’re saying this, you may not believe what you’re saying so I want to give some reasons on why you should trust God.

Why should I trust in God?

  1. His word is sure: Proverbs 30: 5 lets us know that ‘ Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. ‘. Whatever God says is the truth, whatever He proclaims He’ll do. We must come to an understanding that God always keeps His promises, what He says He’ll do, He’s going to do it.
  2. He knows the future: A name of God I like is ‘The one who knows the end from the beginning’. Anytime I call Him that, it cements in me the fact that God already know what’s going to happen in the next 5, 20 years of my life and that gives me the reassurance that He knows what He is doing in my life. Who would you rather trust, someone who just knows today or someone who knows the end of ages?
  3. He has the best plan for us: Jer 29:11, says that God’s plan for us is not of evil but good to bring us to an expected end. God indeed loves us and He is intentional about us, therefore whatever He wants us to do is the best option for us. Even it may not seem like the best now, it is definitely the best.

In the midst of the difficulties, trust that God has your best interest at heart. Your trust for God will lead to obedience to whatever He says. You can’t claim to trust God and then not do as He says.

If you’re going through hard situations now and you know God is not there with you, just make this prayer:

‘Dear Lord, I thank you that You are good. I may not see it now but I thank you that you love me and are intentional with me. Lord, I invite you to this situation I’m going through. Come and take charge of it. I trust you and I will obey whatever instructions you give me. Thank you dear Lord in Jesus Name. Amen.’

I pray that God’s peace will continue to dwell with you in the time of the storms in Jesus name.
